Marilyn Gary

April 29, 1941 — February 21, 2022

Littleton

Marilyn (Arnold) Gary, age 80, passed away peacefully with her husband at her side on February 21, 2022 in Denver, Colorado. Marilyn deeply loved, and was deeply loved by, her family and friends, her faith, her music, and her former students. Marilyn was a graduate of Denton High School and earned a teaching degree at University of North Texas. Marilyn was a dedicated elementary educator for many years in Denton, Tulsa and Houston. She and Joe Gary celebrated their marriage on August 11, 1989.

Marilyn is survived by her spouse, Joe (“Buddy") Gary, her children, Trent (and Trisha) Clifton and their sons Alec and Cole of Denver, Colorado; Karen Clifton and daughters Kenna and Malia of Austin, Texas and Todd Clifton of Tulsa, Oklahoma and step-children, Michelle Gary and her children Charlie, Hannah and Maggie of Piedmont, California and Mike (and Debbie) Gary and their daughter Kate of Denver, Colorado. Marilyn is also survived by her loving sister, Kathy Arden, of Dallas, Texas and nieces and nephews Eric Arden, April Hess, Anette and Keith Gabbard, and Kim Gary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Earl Arnold, and the father of her children, Frank Clifton.

Marilyn was an active participant in her church, in the choir and on the sidelines of children and grandchildren’s sports.  Marilyn was happiest surrounded by her family and relished her role as mother and grandmother.  Family gatherings included competitive board games and singing at the piano. Marilyn was an avid reader as well and shared her joy of reading with her grandchildren. She especially loved creating delicious meals for family and friends, sharing in good conversation, and storytelling. Marilyn was known for her gentleness, thoughtfulness and caring spirit, but beware if you were playing against her in cards!  Joe and Marilyn spent time camping and exploring the beautiful mountains and lakes in New Mexico and Colorado. Marilyn’s strong faith and open, loving heart led her to a lifetime of caring for others, especially those dear to her, near and far.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Methodist Church 9203 South University Drive, Highlands Ranch, Colorado, at 2pm on March 10, 2022.
