Marilyn Joy Geertsen

Marilyn Joy Geertsen, born October 2, 1928 in Wheaton, IL, died peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2018. She was a dedicated Operating Room Nurse for 40 years in San Jose, CA, working at O’Connor Hospital, Good Samaritan and Stanford in Palo Alto. One of highlights of her career was working with surgeons at Stanford on one of the first heart transplant patients. She lived in Los Gatos until 2005, when she moved to Holly Creek, a Retirement Community, in Denver. Marilyn was the wife of the late Thomas John Geertsen, daughter of the late Francis and Esther Smith and older sister of late Vernon Smith. She is survived by her younger brothers- Charles and Allyn Smith; daughters-Elizabeth Margaret Heimsoth and Sarah Ruth Stigall; grandsons- Jeffrey and Chris Heimsoth; granddaughters- Lauren and Jennifer Stigall; great grandchildren-Brooke and Makenna Johnson and Rebecca and Rogan Heimsoth. During her 89 years of life, Marilyn fought Parkinson’s disease and survived Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma twice. Always in our hearts, may you rest in peace, which is so greatly deserved.
