Marilyn was born to Clyde and Helen Hopper on April 13, 1932, in Denver, Colorado. She grew up in Evergreen, Colorado and graduated from Evergreen High School in 1949. She lived and worked in Evergreen, including many years working at the Teepees souvenir shop. She married Vern Helbig in Golden, Colorado on September 19, 1971. They lived a very happy life together in Colorado and Utah for almost 47 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother (Eric Hopper). Marilyn is survived by her husband Vern, and four children: Sherry Helbig Vogel (husband Rob and 5 children), Frank Helbig (wife Stacey and 3 children), Mickey Helbig Conway (3 children), and Marci Helbig Sontag (husband Rob and 2 children), and 25 great-grandchildren. Marilyn loved wildlife and enjoyed feeding the birds throughout her life. She spent much of her life enjoying being outdoors and the beautiful scenery of Colorado. Her hobbies included knitting and needlepoint, baking, and playing games. Her greatest joy was her thirteen grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends who enjoyed her sense of humor, her fabulous cookies, and her friendship. A service to celebrate Marilynâs life will be held on May 17, 2018 at 5 PM at Jefferson Unitarian Church in Golden, Colorado. Donations can be made in her name to the Nature Conservancy.
