Marilyn Kaye Peterson

May 18, 1953 — October 24, 2019

Marilyn Kaye Peterson, age 66, died unexpectedly of a heart attack in Arvada, CO on October 24, 2019.

Marilyn is survived by her sisters, Shari Peterson of Denver, CO and Margaret Schmidt of Arvada, CO; her niece, Rachel Huwa (Corey) of Keenesburg, CO, her nephew, Corey Schmidt, of Arvada, CO and ""Cookie"", her cat. Marilyn, a collector of nicknames - ""Merna"", ""Vern"", ""Timmie"", ""Bookie"", ""Dex"" ""Verna-Marie"", ""Nerna"" and ""Ted Si"". She also enjoyed time with her large, extended family of cousins scattered throughout the Midwest.

Marilyn was born on May 18, 1953 in Boone, Iowa to Phillip and Vicki Peterson. Marilyn graduated from Alburnett High School, Alburnett, Iowa in 1971.

Marilyn attended Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, MO for two years, then worked in an administrative position with Hawkeye Seed in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After moving to Colorado, Marilyn worked for Remco Appliance Center for many years, in both their Denver and Houston offices. She also worked for The Rocky Mountain News. Marilyn moved back to the Alburnett area for a few years, then returned to Denver and worked with her sister Shari as well as a part time cashier at her local Walgreens before taking an early retirement.

Marilyn's family remembers her kind, gentle, generous nature. Quick with a joke, Marilyn found humor in most every situation and many considered her a trusted and loyal best friend.

Marilyn was a self-taught and accomplished pianist and loved to sing along with the oldies. An avid animal rescue advocate, Marilyn also contributed to Bald Eagle rescue and rehabilitation. She was a dedicated follower of Thoroughbred racing and proudly supported her local animal shelters.

Join us for a Celebration of Marilyn's Life on Monday, November 4 at 1pm, with a reception to follow at Horan & McConaty, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, CO.

As Marilyn's earthly time was cut short, we can best honor her by saving another's life. In lieu of flowers, she would be so happy to know her loved ones donated to their local animal shelter.
