Marilyn Dorothea Vigil, age 72, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2018 in Lafayette, Colorado, surrounded by family and friends. Marilyn was born on May 29, 1945, in Pueblo, Colorado to Dorothea and Charles Guy. She grew up in Trinidad where she met and married Alfred Wayne Thompson. From this union, 5 children were born. Marilyn worked as a custodial supervisor at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan in Denver, retiring after twenty years of service. She lived most of her life in the Denver Metro Area. Marilyn met Alfonso Vigil in 1981 and married in 1984. They spent the next 37 years together and Alfonso states that when Marilyn passed he lost his ""Rock"". Marilyn loved to laugh and did so quite often and joyfully. She loved collecting dolls, crocheting blankets for her children and grand kids, making quilts and decorating cakes. There was never a dull moment when you were around Marilyn! Marilyn was a strong woman who loved her family more than anything else in the world, and of all her achievements, this was the greatest. Marilyn is survived by her five children and two stepchildren. She was always âMom,â to everyone, immediately, whether you had just met or had joined the family long ago. It goes without saying that Marilynâs definition of âfamilyâ included everyone whom she loved, and who loved her back. There was always room for one more in her household. We also knew Mom was there for those in need, helping as much as she could without thought of recognition. We could always trust that she would listen and never judge. She was one who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, chose rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. She welcomed her sons and daughters-in-law into her life completely and openly and in return has been blessed abundantly with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother Dorothea Ruth Arellano, her father Charles Milton Guy, her step father Benjamin Arellano, her sister Loretta Vigil, and her brother Lawrence Guthrie. She is survived by her husband, Alfonso Vigil, of Thornton, Colorado, and siblings Charlene Brott, James Guy, Syringa Carrizalez, Benjamin Arellano, and Robert Guy. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.â -Henri J.M. Nouwen Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. -Mary Elizabeth Frye Please leave memories of Marilyn and condolences for her family by signing the guestbook below.
