Marjorie Brown Jump died peacefully in Denver on June 23, 2011 of natural causes at the age of 92. With her husband Laurence A. Jump, she founded the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area in 1946. She was inducted into the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 2000. A native of Pittsburgh, she graduated from the Ethel Walkers School and Bennington College. She was a Lieutenant in the Navy during World War II, serving as a communications officer in Hawaii. After the war she moved to Colorado where she was an avid skier and industry pioneer for over forty years. After her husband's death, she retired to Vail, Colorado where she was active in community and veteran's affairs. She is survived by her children, Patricia McCray, McCleane Brown Jump and his spouse Sloan and Alice K. Jump, four grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and numerous friends and admirers. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 29 at 11 A.M., St. John's Cathedral, 1350 Washington Street, Denver 80202 with a Reception in the Cathedral's Reception area following. A private service will be held at Alvardo Cemetery in Clear Creek County.
