Marjorie Elizabeth Satterfield passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 16, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born March 24, 1933 in Tacoma, Washington to parents Walter and Florence Bragdon. She loved her brother Walter Jr, and had an idyllic childhood. She attended school in Tacoma and graduated from Stadium High School in 1951. In high school she was part of the pep team, and her scrapbooks were filled with newspaper articles, music programs, membership cards, dance cards and nametags from the busy life she had. In 1951, Marjie was Worthy Advisor to the Warren Chapter of Rainbow Girls in Tacoma.
Marjie graduated from the University of Washington in 1955 with a teaching degree. She belonged to the sorority Alpha Xi Delta, and met her future husband at a fraternity dance. She married Clyde Satterfield on her birthday in 1955 and they lived in the Seattle area. They had a 22-year marriage, during which their children were born: Lynda Marie, Karen Ann and James Alan.
Marjie and her young family moved to Northglenn, Colorado in 1965. While raising the kids, she worked part time in the JC Penney’s catalog center at the Northglenn mall for 12 years. In 1979 Marjie began her career at the State of Colorado unemployment office, retiring after 20 years. She then worked part time as a “Red Coat” hostess at the Denver Merchandise Mart, finally ending that chapter after 17 years, at age 85.
In the 1970s Marjie became a member of the adult women’s sorority Epsilon Sigma Alpha, and recently was awarded her 50-year membership pin. During her years in ESA, she was well loved and respected as someone who would always lend a hand, offer a smile and kind word, and be a driving force for the philanthropic missions they supported.
Marjie loved tulips and daffodils and blue hydrangeas. She always marveled at a clear blue Colorado sky, and liked time spent in the Rocky Mountains. She had an impressive collection of salt dishes, and also teapots for her favored black tea. She was kind, gentle and generous and had a nurturing nature. Her motto was to make a difference for others and to give more than she received.
In 2022 Marjie moved to Five Star Residences of Dayton Place in Aurora, Colorado. The family is eternally grateful for the kind and loving care she received there, both in Assisted Living and Memory Care.
Marjie is survived by her daughters, Lynda Heckendorn and Karen Elbrader (Roger) of Colorado, her son, Jim Satterfield (Karen) of Michigan, her grandchildren Lyla Elbrader and Cody Elbrader and great grandson Xavier Angulo-Elbrader all of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. All who knew Marjie are grateful for her guiding hand and joyful spirit.
