Mark Dotterweich

Nov. 2, 1956 — Jan. 23, 2011 MarkDOTTERWEICH , formerly of Longmont and Denver, Colorado, died suddenly on January 23, 2011, in Fort Worth, Texas. Mark is cherished husband of Veronica Perry Dotterweich and devoted father of James, Benjamin and Matthew. He is beloved son of Michael Dotterweich and Marie Dotterweich, and James and Margaret Perry. He is survived by many brothers and sisters from both sides of the family along with dozens of nieces and nephews. Mark graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Stout, with a degree in applied mathematics, followed by a Masters of Science in computer science from the University of Central Florida. His academic honors and awards were numerous. An engineer with a 30-year career at Lockheed Martin, he had been involved with projects for both NASA and DOD. He had worked on autonomous air vehicles and mission control for both the Space Shuttle and Space Station programs, has engineered launch control system upgrades at Kennedy Space Center, and helped develop satellite ground systems for the Air Force. Most recently, he was director of the F-35 Program in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a major force for his company, a go-to guy, and a real-life rocket scientist. His honors, work ethic and accomplishments are legendary. He loved golf and ice hockey. He was an avid skier, hiker and photographer. He was very active in energizing and promoting the Colorado FIRST Robotics Program. In June 2008, he was named the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year by Colorado FIRST, for inspiring young people to appreciate science and technology. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2011, from 4 to 5 p.m., with recitation of the rosary scheduled from 5-5:30 p.m. at Horan McConaty, 3020 Federal Blvd., Denver, CO. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2011, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 1900 California St., Denver, CO.
