Mark Douglas McMillan, 56, of Brighton passed away on December 8, 2020. He was born on August 25, 1964 in Denver, Colorado. Mark was a 4th generation Colorado native.
Mark (the Iceman) served the community of Louisville, Colorado and the Louisville Police Department with honor for 25 years. Mark retired in 2016. Mark’s dedication to police work and protecting the citizens of his community was something both he and his entire family were extremely proud of. Mark would always say that it took a highly trained sheepdog to watch over the sheep and keep the wolves at bay. All that knew him would claim that Mark was the best sheepdog anyone could ever know. His impact on his community and fellow officers will live on in the generations of peace officers that will follow his path.
Mark also loved his dogs. Over the years he owned and cared for several large breed dogs. He gave them a good home and loved to spend as much time with them as possible. Mark’s other passions included motorcycles, cars (especially his 1967 Shelby Cobra) and caring for his home.
Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Jewel McMillan, Francis Jr. and Maryanna Jackson, his uncle Stuart McMillan and his Father Robert Bruce McMillan. Mark is survived by his Mother Patricia Routa, his mentor and Stepfather John Routa, his daughters, Hailey Hong (Chris) and Hannah McMillan along with his 2 granddaughters Leena Hong and Normajean Wharton. He is also survived by his uncle Francis Jackson III, Aunt’s Mary Beth Hough (Ken) and Harriett McMillan, former wife Chris Muzzipapa, older Brother Robert Scott McMillan and his wife Zoë (Albrecht) and nephews C.J. McMillan, Darian Albrecht and Taylor McMillan. Mark is also survived by his cousins Kendall Hough Hayes, Kirsten Hough Pennell, Jason Hough, Morgan and Whitney McMillan.
I Am A Sheepdog,
I choose to believe. I believe in the power of a calling. I believe in honor and sacrifice. In courage through the danger and strength through the struggle. I believe in hope. I believe in the power of will, in justice, in a new day and in making a difference. I will never stop believing no matter what comes my way. Some may hate, while others turn a blind eye. There will be burdens and risks, loss of brothers and sisters and that challenge keeps me going. No matter what confronts me, no matter the danger, I will keep my faith, my hope and my courage. I am a defender and a peacekeeper.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Mark’s name to the Colorado Police Officers Foundation. All funds go to help officers suffering from PTSD and help with suicide prevention. The fund is a Colorado tax-exempt non-profit and your donation is tax deductible.
