Martha Joann Haines Burton, of Dacono, CO, died on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was 91. She was born on February 14, 1924 in Denver, Colorado to Charles and Nanaruth Haines. She attended South High School in Denver and later graduated from the University of Denver in 1945. In 1947 she married Frank Burton, and together they had four children, Warren Burton (Alison), Nancy Burton Hart, Barbara Burton Sihombing (Effendi), and Charlie Burton (Franny). Her husband, Frank, son Charlie, and brothers, Chuck and Bob Haines preceded her in death. Frank worked as a chemical Engineer at Gates Rubber Company. Martha was a homemaker and a teacher of social studies at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado. She retired in 1974 Martha became a member of Pi Phi Sorority and Mortar Board during college, and was in the DU Pioneer Promenaders Square Dance club, where she met Frank and made many lifelong friends. Martha had a deep love for the mountains of Colorado, enjoyed travel, and was very close to her family. Known for her quiet kindness, Martha was greatly loved by her friends and family, and will be missed in equal measure. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Haines Purkaple, three of her four children and their spouses, seven grandchildren (Chris Hart, Alice and Hilary Burton, Lucas and Will Burton, and Adam and Holly Sihombing), and Tumiur (Tiur) Sihombing, her husband, Hasitongan Manurung, and their children, Junmilano, Gilang, Bunga and Veronica Manurung, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. A celebration of her life will be held at the Horan & McConaty Funeral Home in Denver (1091 S. Colorado Boulevard) on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made in Martha's name to the charity of your choice.
