Martha ""Janie"" Fancher

September 18, 1937 — June 13, 2011

""Janie"" (Martha Jane Alice) Fancher peacefully left this world on June 13th 2011 at 10:10 PM to join our Father in heaven. Janie was born in Pueblo Colorado on September 18th, 1937 to parents John William Dowd I and Marie Louise Pelletier. As a Territorial Daughter, the Dowd's settled in Colorado in 1853 when Colorado was a territory of the United States and not yet a State. As a Pioneer of Colorado, Janie shared a colorful family history and a great love for the State. The Dowd family then moved to Denver, Colorado where she went to school at St. Catherine's, Englewood High School and furthered her education at University of Phoenix with a degree in accounting. Janie married Robert ""Bob"" P. Fancher June 28, 1963 at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver Colorado. As the wife of a career Air Force man (Bob achieved the level of Major at retirement), Janie and the growing family traveled and lived in all parts of the world. They started their life together living in RAF Marhan Air Force Base in England, and then GAF Norvenich Air Force Base in Germany and yes, even Tehran Iran during the era of the Shaw of Iran. They also lived in less exotic places such as Kansas City MO and Scott Air Force Base in IL. After 20 years in the Air Force, Bob retired and the family returned to Colorado, Janie's home. Since the family was no longer on the move, Janie began her second career as an accountant (first mother and wife) working as a Civil Servant at the Federal Center in Denver for the Department of the Interior, Minerals Management Services where she retired in1999. Her retirement years were filled with running for a city council position, working with the Republican Party, bead-working, jewelry- making and doting grandmother. Janie lived a happy and fulfilled life. Janie is survived by a devoted and loving husband, Bob Fancher; sister Marie-Louise DelCupp and brother John W. Dowd II. She also leaves behind five loving children Don, Rich, John, Kelly and Eddie as well as nine delightful grandchildren Billy, Bobby, Stacy, Noelle, Tuscany, William, Nelly, Shauna and Shannon. Janie was the matriarch and loving glue that held together a close-knit family. A memorial service will be held Friday June 17th, 2:00 PM at Spirit of Christ Catholic Church, 7400 W. 80th Ave., Arvada, CO 80003 Monday June 20th, internment at Fort Logan, Staging Area A at 1PM.
