Martha (Saavedra) Garland, age 88, died peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren on June 21, 2022. She was born in Taos, New Mexico, and moved to Denver, where she attended college, and then worked at Denver General Hospital where she met her husband, Gerard Garland, to whom she was married for 52 years. He preceded her in death, along with her parents and her two sisters.
Martha was a member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church where she volunteered for many years. She was a board member and a Pink Lady at St. Joseph Hospital; she was a member of the Silverados at the Church of the Risen Christ and was a founding member of the Kahunas.
Martha was the mother of five children, Patrick (Jenny), Anna (Mark), Della (Matt), Maureen (Phil), Michael (Darcy); eleven grandchildren, Jeff (Jeff), Amy (Colin); Sean (Karen), Tim (Acacia), Elena (Eli); Sophia, Michael; Frank, Nick (Maddi); Ryan, Natalie; and two great grandchildren, Kaylee and Finnley. Her children will be holding a funeral and memorial service in the early fall for all to remember and honor her. She was a mom to all of our friends, grandma to every child, and a friend to anyone who needed one. She loved sewing, playing tennis and golf, gardening, making our traditional chili and posole, but especially loved spending time with her family.
Martha will be missed every day and will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, and we ask that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Alzheimer’s Foundation or a charity near to your own heart in honor of Martha.
Recitation of the Rosary will be on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 6pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 South Colorado Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80246. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 10am at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 3959 E Iliff Ave, Denver, CO 80210 with reception to follow. Interment at Fort Logan on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 2pm, staging area "A".
