Col. Martin C. Brandt (Ret.), of Aurora, Colorado, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009. He was born in Olmitz, Kansas, the third child of Charles and Laura Brandt. Martin was employed as an apprentice printer when he was drafted into the Army during World War II. His military career spanned 27 years and included WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam conflict. He was stationed all over the world but always managed to return to Colorado for several tours of duty where he retired in 1970. Martin was an avid sportsman and enjoyed both fishing and hunting. He also spent many hours working in his large garden and was especially proud of his homemade dill pickles. He is preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, and a brother and sister. Survivors include his sons, Martin and wife Nancy, of Colorado Springs; John and wife Janet, of New Braunfels, Texas; Paul and wife Jennie, of Centennial; and daughter Dr. Mary Jane Brandt and her husband Dr. Rick Palmquist of Los Angeles, Calif.; and nine grandchildren. Col. Brandt and his wife will be buried together at a private family service held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver later this month.
