Martin Aurelio Macias

February 23, 1933 — April 24, 2020

Martin Aurelio Macias was born on February 23, 1933, to Jennie (Ruiz) and Aurelio Macias. He married the love of his life, Rachelle Arambula on October 11, 1958 and celebrated 61 years of marriage, October 2019.

Martin was born in Brighton, Colorado and proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He and Rachelle purchased their first home in Northglenn, Colorado and proudly raised their family there. He was a founding member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was the Sargent at Arms for the American Legion Post 22. He worked at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center and at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. After his retirement, he tried his hand at babysitting his grandchildren. Cookies and milk for breakfast, pulling a wagon around the yard collecting weeds and being a sideline football coach brought joy to his life. Martin was a man of honor, compassion and understanding.

Martin was an avid Denver Broncos fan and shared the love of the game with his wife and children. The Macias home was off limits on Sunday as the family spent the afternoon watching or listening to the Bronco game. Dad was a man of very few words with a dry sense of humor. He very seldom said goodbye, instead he said ""Be careful"" or if he was being ornery he said ""Watch your lead foot"" with a smile. Dad had a strong work ethic from his time in the military and instilled this work ethic in his children. His motto was ""If you aren't at work a half hour before your start time, you're late.""

He is survived by his wife, Rachelle; daughters, Pam, Marcie Donaldson (Jon), and Linda; sons, Tim (Lisa), Roger (Mary), Pat (Lynn), and Mike; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard and Thom; and sister, JoAnn Mascarenas.

He was loved and will be missed by his sisters-in-law, Del Solano, Pat Arambula, Betty Zamora, and Cathy Arambula; his brothers-in-law, Deacon Louis Arambula and Joey Arambula.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jennie and Aurelio; his brothers, Manual and Paul; and his sister, Irene Ruiz. Also preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Timmy.
