Marvin Eugene Heath was born on May 5, 1953, at March Air Force Base near Riverside, California where his dad was stationed, the first child of Clifford Marvin Heath and Delores Jean (Fagler) Heath. He died at his home in Denver, Colorado on February 5, 2024. Marv spent his early years in California until his father’s discharge from the Air Force and the family’s move to Colorado where his parents met and his mother’s family resided. Marv retained an affinity for California throughout his life, which probably explains his support of the Raiders even after they moved to Las Vegas.
Marvin attended school at Redeemer Lutheran School in Denver, graduating from the 8th grade. He then went to Kepner Junior High in Denver. The family moved to the south suburb of Englewood when Marv was in high school. He attended and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1971. While at SHS, he played trombone in the band and participated in wrestling. Throughout his life, Marv engaged in much continuing education and trainings as well as taking classes at Arapahoe Community College.
While in high school, Marvin worked at Beverly Manor Nursing Home in Denver in food services. His boss was a cordon bleu trained chef and stirred up a love of cooking in him that he enjoyed sharing with others. Upon graduating from high school, Marv went to work at Rocky Mountain Prestress in Sheridan, CO working in the maintenance department with his father. It was at RMP that Marvin learned to weld and became a certified welder. Also during this time, he became a volunteer fire fighter and then EMT with the Sheridan Fire Department. This stoked his interest in the fire protection industry. He began working for Mountain States Fire Protection, where he was employed for many years, first as a pipefitter and then in other positions. In addition to Mountain States, Marv worked for Frontier Fire Protection and Central Fire Protection in Denver as well as companies in Simi Valley, CA where he relocated for a time, before he opened his own consulting company, FOGG Fire Protection Consulting, LLC. He held positions such as estimator, sales, project engineer, drafter, designer, and others. He knew the fire protection industry well and the codes that governed it. He greatly enjoyed his work, including the challenges that come along with it. Within the industry, Marvin was active in the NFPA and AFSA, including serving on local boards. Marv actively worked in the fire protection industry up until the time of his death.
Marvin enjoyed living. Early on, he owned a boat and was always up for a day of waterskiing at either Sloan’s Lake or Cherry Creek. Cars held his interest as well. He loved Corvettes and owned many different ones over the years. Did you know you could make it from Denver to Ft. Morgan in 45 minutes? When he was younger, Marv worked with drivers and mechanics at Englewood Speedway where he could often be found on a Friday or Saturday night. He became interested in NASCAR and going to car/drag races around town. Recently, Marv turned his attention to Formula 1 racing, including twice attending races at the newly opened track in Austin, Texas. Marv owned numerous snowmobiles over the years as well. In addition to riding in town, as was once allowed, he enjoyed back-country adventures, even when that meant running into a moose (almost literally) while doing so. But Marv’s outdoor passion was golf. He played the game, followed the game, lived and breathed the game. On a couple different occasions, he explored going to Q school in order to qualify for the professional tour. He was able to play many of the PGA courses around the country, including Sawgrass and Torrey Pines. Being on a golf course was Marv’s favorite place to be.
Marvin is survived by his sister, Patty Heath of Colville, Washington, by extended family and many close friends and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Dee and Cliff; his grandparents George and Katherine (Starkel) Fagler and Clifford and Myra (Caster) Heath as well as his faithful canine companions Buddy, Morgan, Jake, Kate, and most recently Maggie.
