Marvin R. Holmes was born July 20, 1923, in Denver to Charles O. and Inez (Chrisman) Holmes. He grew up in Denver and attended Denver Public Schools. Marvin found his faith and the girl he wanted to marry in a little chapel in South Denver when he was 14. He married that girl, Barbara Jordan, on March 15, 1946. They had two children and enjoyed 59 years together. He discovered his natural mechanical abilities in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Marvin received special naval training as a Machinist's Mate at the University of Kansas and was honorably discharged from the Navy November 27, 1945. One week after his discharge he started work at Eberhardt- Denver Co., which was purchased by Morse Chain of Borg Warner and later by Emerson Electric, While working there, he continued his education with courses through DU, CSU, and CU. Promotions through the years took him from machinist, night-foreman, tool room supervisor, tool designer, manufacturing engineering manager to plant engineer. Marvin retired in 1987, but continued on until 2001 as a full-time consultant in research and development specializing in test equipment design. Marvin also loved spending time with his family. He loved to joke and tease with them. He taught his son and daughter how to drive defensively, how to maintain their vehicles, and the value of a job well done. Marvin loved to take his family on Sunday drives and vacations on the road. He also enjoyed repairing and inventing things in his garage. After his children were grown, Marvin and his wife, Barbara took trips to Europe, Hawaii, Maine and British Columbia. He also did the plans, finish work and maintenance on the beautiful mountain home designed by his son, Bryan. Marvin and Barbara have lived there for the past 31 years. Marvin is survived by his beloved wife Barbara, their two children, Bryan (Linda)Holmes & Connie (Bill) Cable. Six grandchildren, Matthew, Ethan, Casey, Justin, Luke (Kelli) & Holly (Eden); three great-grandchildren, Emma, Megan & Iesha. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, brother James & great-grandson Auston Jay. Funeral Services Wednesday, November 30, 2005, 11:00 A.M., Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 So. Wadsworth Blvd. We will miss our dear loved one very much, but we will cherish our precious memories of his life with us on earth and celebrate his everlasting life with his Lord in heaven.
