In 1949, Marvin graduated from Meade High School in Meade, KS. Marvin earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration (1954) and a Masters degree in Business Administration (1956) from Fort Hays Kansas State College. He continued his studies in business administration at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX after having been admitted to the candidacy for Doctor of Business Administration. He passed the Certified Public Accountant Examination in 1969 and was licensed in Oklahoma as a CPA. Joining the U.S. Air Force in December 1950, Marvin honorably served our country during the Korean War. From June 1952 to June 1953 he was stationed in Korea at airbase K-8 in Kuson, by the Yellow Sea. He served with the 5th Air Force, 3rd Bomb Wing. During his time at Fort Hays Kansas State College he met the love of his life, Irene Pfannestiel. They were married on December 21, 1955 in Hays KS. Over the next 43 years they raised a family, shopped for antiques, and laughed a lot. They supported each other as they each worked to complete their college educations, start a family, and develop a life together. It was a deep friendship that brought joy to each of them. Marvin's career choice and love was in the field of accounting. He applied his knowledge in two primary careers during his life, first as a college professor and then as an administrative officer for the Colorado State Health Department. His first career choice was teaching accounting and business management courses at the college level. In the college arena he taught at Southeastern State College, Durant, OK. 1960-67, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX. 1967-70, University of Denver, Denver, CO.1970-75, and Arapahoe Community College, Littleton, CO 1974-86. His career in the university setting spanned 32 years, beginning with work as an Account Clerk in the Business office at Fort Hays St. College. He also worked in roles such as Student Union Director and Assistant Dean of Men, at Wisconsin State College, Superior, WI 1959-60. In 1975, Marvin joined the Health Facilities Division of the Colorado Department of Health as an Accountant III. Over the next 20 years he worked alongside the other health department staff, to oversee the licensing and certification of health facilities across the state. He retired in 1995. One of his fondest joys was to collect and run American Flyer Trains. As a member of the Train Collectors Association, Rocky Mountain Division, he served as Treasurer from 1989 '"" 1991. He continued to contribute to annual budget reviews for the National TCA organization. A visit to Marvin's home was not complete unless you got the guided tour of the Train Room. He very much enjoyed discussing the history of the trains, his latest purchase, and, of course, running a few trains and blowing the whistle.
