Marvin Roy Olson was born April 22, 1936 in Dakota City, Nebraska and passed from our world on August 22, 2009 in Denver, CO following a short illness. He was 73 years old. He was loved immensely by his family and friends, and those who knew him will never forget him. Following his primary education in Nebraska, Marvin enlisted in the United States Army in 1953, serving in Korea before being honorably discharged in 1956. While stationed in Denver, Marvin met Helen (Trujillo), his bride of 52 years. Besides Helen, Marvin leaves his three children, Eddie, Margaret, and Beth, daughter-in-law Tamara, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Geneva Fuchser and Maxine Satterwhite, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles, and aunts. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Verlie (Jones), brother, Melvin, and sister, Betty. As a civilian, Marvin proudly continued to serve his country as a Green Beret through the Colorado National Guard. He was an accomplished mechanic for the Denver Water Board and fleet supervisor for the City of Littleton, before opening his own facility in 1979 and retiring from URS Corporation in 2009. He was a talented and award-winning artist and wood carver throughout his life. Local Colorado visitation will be Wednesday August 27, 3-7 pm at Horan-McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., followed by a Rosary at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday August 29 at 10:00 am at All Souls Church, 4950 S. Logan Street, Englewood. Following his return to Nebraska, visitation will be Wednesday, September 2, 3-7 pm with services Thursday September 3, 10 am, both at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, 204 E. 15th Street, South Sioux City, Nebraska. Graveside services will follow at Omaha Valley Cemetery in Homer. Family and friends are invited to attend.
