Marvin F. Owens

January 23, 1943 — January 30, 2010

Marvin F. Owens III was born on January 23, 1943 in Plainfield, NJ. In 1946 his family moved to Colorado, where he had been a resident ever since. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin F. Owens, Jr. and Jessie Ruth Hay Owens. He was the husband of Janis C. Owens, Father of Levis Pamela Owens (San Fransisco), Marvin Franklin (Dara) Owens IV (Lakewood), Lt Morgan L. Owens (Newport News, VA) and Colin Taylor Owens (Lakewood). He was the grandfather of Ashley Marie Owens (age 17), Satchel Zee Wilkinson (age 15), Samantha Levis Owens (age 11) and Ella Naima Iton (3 months); brother of Bill (Lynne) Owens of Anthem, AZ and Jack H. Owens of Denver. Marvin graduated from Fort Lewis College in 1967, B.S. Economics. He followed in the footsteps of his grandfather and father when he began a 25 year career in banking in the Denver area, serving as president of several banks prior to retiring from the industry. In 1988 he founded The File Vault, Inc., a business records storage center, which was subsequently sold in 2000. Marvin always enjoyed the challenges of his careers and gained an immense amount of worldliness from all the people he became acquainted with over the years. During his retirement, he cultivated his love of woodworking. He enjoyed the challenges of creating fine furniture, from researching types of woods and their characteristics to choosing projects and learning everything about tools that he could. He took great pride in his completed pieces and was always excited about the next one. Besides woodworking, he enjoyed spending time playing bridge, cooking, and studying world economics and politics. Marvin took great pride in all his children and their accomplishments. He could never say enough about them. Marvin passed away on January 30, 2010 following a brief battle with cancer and complications resulting from a stroke. Donations in Marvin's memory are suggested to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
