Marvin was born on the family farm in Ringgold County, Iowa on November 29, 1939 to Weldon and Ruth (Gilliland) Swigart. He passed away on January 6, 2016 at his home in Parker, Colorado. He was 76. Marvin was the second of four boys. Marvin married Faye (Brocka), August 4, 1963 in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived in California for 8 years and then Marvin set his heart on running across the United States. So he, Faye, and Faye's mother, Genevieve, did in 1971. He set the world record at that time and completed the feat in 62 days 17 hours, 3, 290 miles from San Francisco to New York. They moved to Colorado right after the run. The moved to Parker shortly before Susan was born, in 1973. Shaun was born 8 years later in 1981. Marvin was a man of many talents and a jack of all trades. Throughout his life he was a mortician, high school teacher, coach, Union Pacific brakeman/switchman, bus driver and a United Airlines baggage handler. He was a life-long and avid learner in medicine and health. He has passed his love of learning to his children and grandchildren. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Weldon and Ruth Swigart and two brothers, Glen David and Kenneth. Marvin is survived by his wife, Faye (Brocka) Swigart, daughter Susan and her husband Jerry, daughter Shaun and her husband Davis, grandchildren Julie and Stephen Hammond. He is also survived by one brother, Earl Swigart of Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Funeral Service will be held at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel in Centennial, Colorado on Tuesday January 12, 2016 at 6:00pm, with visitation starting at 5:00pm. Another service will be held at Kaiser Carson Funeral Home in Shell Rock, Iowa on January 16, 2016 at 10:30am. Marvin will be interred at Butler County Cemetery in Allison, Iowa.
