Marvin Welt

December 10, 1934 — November 3, 2022

Marvin Osborne Welt passed away at the age of 87 on November 3.

Marvin was born on December 10, 1934. He was raised by his Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Erwin Sprague in Rockport, Maine with his brother Erwin (E.Lee) Sprague and sister Jeanne Fifield. His brother Neil and stepbrother David Crocket were also in Rockport. He graduated from Rockport High School in 1953 with his twelve classmates. He started his career as a mechanic and was hired on with United Airlines and was proud to work there for 41 years. He met the love of his life, Elizabeth, in 1956 and married her on August 3, 1957. Uncle Sam drafted him into the Army immediately after. He spent 2 years in the Army at Fort Eustis with Liz living in an Airstream trailer on the base. He was proud of his appointment to the Army Rife Team and received a commendation as a Sharpshooter. After his service, United Airlines sent him to New York, Boston, and eventually brought him to Colorado in 1965. His son David arrived in 1968 and his daughter Jennifer in 1970. He retired from United Airlines in 1996, just in time to be a grandpa.

He was a fiercely caring father and husband. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to make Liz happy. He could fix ANYTHING and could always be found tinkering on something or riding his tractor around the yard. He loved to hunt, ride his motorcycle, fish, camp, bowl, take pictures, feed the birds, and garden. His garden was prolific and everyone in the neighborhood benefited from the vegetables he grew. In everything he did, he gave 100%. There was no point in doing anything halfway.

He loved his five grandchildren: Virginia, Cameron, Jack, Ellie, and Quinn. Papa would ride them around on the tractor, watch cartoons, sing silly songs with them and had a million jokes to tell.

Marvin was someone people gravitated toward because of his huge heart and silly sense of humor. No one was a stranger and everyone who came into the house became family. He was also not afraid to voice his opinion on any subject and put you in your place when needed.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Elizabeth, son David (Sarah) Welt, daughter Jennifer (Jeffrey) Nystrom, and five grandchildren; Virginia Nystrom, Cameron Welt, Jack Nystrom, Elizabeth (Ellie) Welt, and Quinn Welt. Also his brother Neil (Connie) Welt, his sister Jeanne (Gil) Fifield, and brother-in-law Thomas Prendergast. Nieces and nephews Barry (Laurel) Sprague, James (Linda) Welt, John Gilbert, Kellie Sprague, Daniel Gilbert, Jason (Michelle) Welt, Jenny Fifield and Nathan Gilbert. There are too many wonderful friends to mention.
