Mary ""Judy"" Philipp Baur

May 3, 1930 — January 1, 2013

On a cool, sparkling New Year's morning 2013, birds feeding outside her window, Mary Julie Philipp ""Judy"" Baur ended her journey on earth, joining her beloved parents Cyrus L. and Mary, sister Patty, brother Emanuel (Bud) and dear son Christopher. Judy was born on May 3, 1930 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she grew up in a busy and social household with visits by political luminaries and many family friends. Always the belle of the ball, Judy made life-long friends at the Milwaukee Downer Seminary and Camp Bryn Afon in northern Wisconsin. Soon after finishing her studies at Garland College in Boston, Judy married her dashing beau, John Frederic Baur, also of Milwaukee on June 17, 1950. Over the next 11 ½ years, Judy and John created a family of six along the shores of Lake Winnebago in Neenah, Wisconsin. While their roots in Wisconsin were deep, in 1969 the family moved to Denver, Colorado where Judy lived the rest of her life. Here, Judy and John created a new life and raised five active boys and a lovely daughter and were later blessed with their wonderful daughters in-law. Judy was a trustee with the Denver Dumb Friends League and the Kent Denver Country Day School where she also worked for many years. She loved her annual pilgrimage to the Hillsboro Club in Florida where she visited since she was a young child. Her passions in life included her children and grandchildren, watching them participate in sports, playing the piano, painting, the Packers and the Broncos, and decorating her home for the holidays. She often made grand events of family gatherings, and loved laughing and joking with friends and family on warm summer days. Judy spent her later years enjoying her home and her close friends and family. She loved having coffee with the ladies, entertaining her grandchildren at the pool, and the companionship of husband John and her dogs Joey and Wally. During the last year of her life, she courageously battled cancer. She was gracious to the very end, continually thanking the doctors and nurses and admonishing them for working too late. The Baur Family would like to thank Jennifer Veccio from Swedish Hospital and the incredible staff at Porter Hospice who make life's end as dignified and peaceful as possible. Judy was grateful for your prayers and good wishes over the past several months. Judy is survived by her husband of 62 years, John, and her five children, Dick (Vicki) of Broomfield, Todd (Stephanie) of Denver, Peter of Denver, Cindy of Denver and Andy (Betsy) of Helena, Montana. She has six wonderful grandchildren, Peter Jr., Lauren, William, Katie, Natalie and Caroline. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judy's memory to the Denver Dumb Friends League 2080 South Quebec Street, Denver, CO 80231 or Children's Hospital Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, 13123 East Sixteenth Avenue, Aurora, CO 80045.
