Mary Cathleen Baylie

Mary Cathleen Baylie, 88, of Broomfield Colorado passed away at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, Colorado on Monday, December 25, 2023. She had been battling pneumonia and influenza for the past two weeks. She was born June 22, 1935 in Hays, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents Florian J. Karls, Rosenna C. Wernette – Karls and her brother John P. Karls.
Mary Baylie attended grade school and high school in Leoville, Kansas. She attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas and receive a BA in Music Education. She went on to teach in Kansas, California, and Colorado. Mary Baylie was married to Merle D Baylie on May 17, 1958, in Leoville, Kansas. Mary was married to Merle for thirty years when he passed in 1988.
Her husband Merle was in the Navy for twenty years and they were stationed in Florida, Texas, and California. Mary loved being a Navy wife and had many wonderful and lasting friendships. During this time, they were blessed with three children while Mary taught Head Start and kindergarten in California. In Colorado, she taught music in the Boulder Valley School District and elementary schools in Broomfield, Louisville, and Boulder. She retired in June of 1997.
Mary was a mother, wife and teacher wearing many hats and belonging to many profession organizations ADK Women’s Educators Sorority, Fleet Reserve Ladies Auxiliary and Gold Star Wife’s to name a few.
Mary remained very active for 10 years both community and church. She volunteered her time at Kaiser Permanente at Rock Creek, Broomfield FISH, and started the first Nativity of Our Lord widows’ group, she loved playing cards with family and friends, crocheting and knitting. What free time she had was spent in prayer and enjoying her kids, grandkids, and great grand kids.
Mary Baylie is survived by her three children; Patrick J. Baylie (Valerie)(Arvada, CO), Michael D. Baylie (Mary)(Meeker, CO), and Colleen M. Tinker (Chris)(Pensacola, FL) Nine grandchildren: Michael Baylie Jr. (Renee), Courtney Meneghin (Ryan), Shannon Baylie (Cami), Cameron Baylie, Connor Tinker, Sammy Baylie, Colin Tinker (Veronica), Caitlyn Baylie and Mary Baylie. Two great grandchildren: Nolan and Cooper Baylie. She is also survived by several cousins and many great friends.

Rosary will begin at 6:00pm on January 18 with visitation following until 8:00pm at Horan-McConaty (7577 W.80th Ave Arvada). Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 19 at 10:30am at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church (900 W. Midway Blvd, Broomfield) lunch will be served in the church basement after the service. Interment will occur after lunch at Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Boulder, Colorado.
