Mary Bishop

Mary Kay Bishop of Westminster Colorado passed away on December 18, 2022 surrounded by family and friends.

Mary K. was born on March 7th, 1947 in Bruke, SD to Philip and Shirley (Alexander) Bohnet was the second child of four (Roland, Nancy and Rob).

After graduating with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) from South Dakota State University (SDSU), she started her career as a nurse in and met her first husband Robert Frerich and moved to Minneapolis, MN in June of 1969. It was here that Mary K. first child was born, Matt. After spending a year in Minneapolis, Mary K. moved her family to Denver, Colorado to continue her career as a nurse and her second child Gretchen was born. She worked at National Jewish in the pediatric care department for over 25 years.

Mary K.’s natural gift was always serving her patients with dignity, respect, and true compassion. Her skills were exemplified through mentoring and being a preceptor to many nurses, sharing the wisdom and experiences that she gained over the years. Mary K. loved working with children and was the Head Nurse for the pediatrics department when she decided to retire to leave National Jewish.

She changed her career to Hospice care where she found her true calling in life. She excelled at taking care of patients as they were nearing the end of their time on this earthly world. Mary K. always used to say, “when you come into the world as a baby you need to be fed and changed, when you leave this world you need the same thing.”

Mary K. remarried to Dave Bishop in the summer of 2004. Mary Kay and Dave spent their time hiking and traveling the world together. Mary Kay Bishop lived her life serving her patients, her friends, and her loved-ones touching many hearts and souls along the way. Her legacy will continue on for generations to come.

Mary K. was predeceased by Philp and Shirley Bohnet, Roland Bohnet and Robert Frerich.

Mary K. is survived by her current husband Dave Bishop and her two children: Matthew Frerich (Matt) and Gretchen Skipworh and four Grandchildren; Patrick, Morgan, Ashley and Justin.

Mary Kay’s Celebration of Life will be Thursday December 29th at 1:00 PM At Horan & McConaty Funeral home, 7577 W 80th Ave, Arvada 80003.
