Our community sadly lost a pillar on Sunday October 9th, 2022, when Mary Katherine Black, best known to loved ones as Sis, passed away unexpectedly in her home from natural causes. She was born April 7th, 1963 to James and Dorothy McGowan. She completed her education at Holy Family High School (Class of 1981), and her contributions to the community since were enumerable throughout her 35-year tenure at the American Red Cross. Her love of service to the community was second only to her love and devotion to her family and friends. When not providing for her family or community, she enjoyed playing with her dog Tilly, hosting family gatherings, baking, watching the Broncos, and shopping (especially on QVC).
She lived a fulfilling life as a mother, sister, wife, and friend. She is preceded in death by her husband Dale Black and father James McGowan. She is survived by her sons Tyler Black and Teddy Black, along with their wives Linda and Wendy. She is also survived by her mother Dorothy McGowan, sister Maureen McGowan, brother Joe McGowan and wife Charlene, and several cousins. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone whose hearts were touched by her generosity as well as those she reached but never met. Service in remembrance will be held on Saturday, October 15th at 10 a.m. at the Horan & McConaty at 3020 Federal Blvd Denver, CO 80211. In lieu of flowers, please honor her memory, kindness, and compassion by continuing to donate or volunteer in your community or with the American Red Cross.
