Mary E. Broad

Mary E. Broad, 59, of Henderson passed away on April 5, 2019 in her home. Born on August 13, 1959 in Alliance, Nebraska, she is the daughter of Donna J. (McKenna) Schekall and the late Stanley J. ""Jim"" Schekall.

Independent and enterprising from an early age, she excelled in designing and making her own clothes, and started a business selling cards and magazine subscriptions door to door in her small hometown of Hemingford, Nebraska. She graduated from Hemingford High School in 1978, where she served as student council president. She attended college at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and went on to earn her MBA from Chadron State College in 2007. Mary worked as Director of Risk Management for Union Pacific Railroad.

She married Tim Broad of Alliance, Nebraska in 1979, and over the decade that followed, she became a fun, tireless and fiercely loving mother to four children: Lisa, Teresa, Ian and Dylan. She was eagerly looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild in June of this year.

Mary was a keenly intelligent, spiritual and deeply curious woman, who consistently sought to understand the world around her and her place in it. She expressed a profound love for people, animals and nature, and felt truly at home running and hiking, surrounded by Colorado's mountains, rivers and intense sunlight. She was a warm, funny, charismatic person, with a magnetic presence that drew people to her and a deep reserve of empathy that made them feel instantly at ease. To quote her favorite childhood movie Mary Poppins, she was ""practically perfect in every way.""

In addition to her mother, Donna, she is survived by her children, Lisa Broad and her husband Michael Anderson, Teresa Gorman and her husband Rick Gorman, Ian Broad and Dylan Broad; her siblings, Caren Grandgenett, Susan Schekall, Michael Schekall, Stanley Schekall, Joseph Schekall, Carol Taylor and their families; as well as a host of relatives, colleagues, and devoted friends. She was preceded in death by her father Jim and her brother David Schekall.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Rd. Centennial, CO 80122. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 4:30pm at the same location.
