MARY DEMOVILLE THOMPSON CLARK, 91, passed on in her sleep on September 19, 2016 in Denver, CO after a lengthy, valiant battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 26, 1925, to Joseph Hamilton Thompson, former CEO of the Hanna Mining Company, and Elizabeth Lacey Thompson, and was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, William Judkins Clark. Mary was raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and was a graduate of the Westover School and Sarah Lawrence College. In the closing months of WWII, she was a pilot who instructed fledgling aviators in primary flight training, and was an accomplished athlete: a superb horsewoman and a regionally ranked tennis player. In 1950, she married William J. Clark and in 1955 settled in Rowayton, Connecticut. Mary volunteered at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, obtained a Master's Degree in Recreational Therapy with Honors from Columbia University. She went on to serve the Medical Center as Director of Recreational Therapy. She is remembered with love by friends, family, and the many who enjoyed her energy, perseverance, humor, and warm smile. She is survived by her three children: William Judkins Clark Jr., Catherine Clark Shopneck, Mary Clark Talbot, all of Denver; six grandchildren: Fraser, Adam, and Will Clark, Andy and Chris Shopneck and Betts Talbot; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Christ Church Cathedral, Nashville, Tennessee at 10:30 AM on Sat., Oct. 22, 2016, and interment immediately thereafter at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for any donations to be sent in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Colorado Chapter.
