Mary Kathleen Dwyer died peacefully in her home in Denver, Colorado on May 11, 2024. Known to many as “Cass,” she was 61 years old and had for many years fought metastatic breast cancer.
On May 14, 1962, Mary was born to James Francis Dwyer and Joanne Marie Dwyer, their sixth child. In her childhood she resided in Aurora, where she attended Saint Therese Catholic Grade School before she attended Bishop Machebeuf High School in Denver.
Following high school she attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, then the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, and then Regis University in Denver, from which she graduated (summa cum laude she would have reminded her siblings) with a B.A. degree in Behavioral Science.
For most of her work career Mary was a Social Worker. She worked at the Adams County (Colorado) Department of Social Services and the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Finance in Denver.
Throughout her life Mary enjoyed homemaking, particularly gardening, entertaining her family and friends, and listening to music.
Mary’s legacy will certainly include her love for and support of her nieces and nephews: Joel Christopherson, Sam and James Bliven, Ryan Dwyer and Meghan Cassady (nee Dwyer), Annie Ryan, and Evan, Adelyn, Jack, Gus, Colin and Joseph Dwyer.
Mary survived her mother and father, her sister Patricia J. Dwyer, and her brother Gerard M. (“Jerry”) Dwyer. She is survived by her brothers James F. Dwyer, Jr., Daniel G. Dwyer (Nancy), Robert M. Dwyer (Michelle Vogt), Thomas F. (“Lou”) Dwyer (Tanya), her sister Bridget A. Dwyer, her sister-in-law Ann M. Dwyer, all of her nieces and nephews, and her beloved canine companion, Monroe (he's already beloved in a new home near his home with Mary).
Mary's Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Saint Francis De Sales Catholic Church at 300 South Sherman Street in Denver. Her funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024 (also at Saint Francis), and there will be a reception immediately afterwards.
Mary requested the donation of a portion of her estate to non-profit providers for mentally ill persons. In lieu of flowers for her, she would have liked donations to such providers. The Funeral Mass can be viewed via livestream via this link: https://bxcited.com/mary-cass-dwyer/
