Mary Jane Gordon

June 25, 1921 — September 5, 2019

Mary Jane Gordon was born on June 25th, 1921 in Royal Oak Michigan, to parents Paul and Frances (Kozimor) Groth. She leaves her sister, Pauline Barch, daughter Margaret (Peggy) Gordon, son Robert (Bob) Gordon, granddaughters Ann Gordon, Chelsea Mayer, grandson Devin Brown and great grandsons Theodore and Linus Hesse. She was preceded in death by her spouse of almost 70 years, Robert Gordon, in 2012, and her older sister Virginia Muldoon who died in 1998.

Mary attended Royal Oak Dondero High School in Royal Oak Michigan. She graduated in 1939. After high school she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. She married Bob Gordon in 1942, in Rolla Missouri, prior to his deployment to Europe. Upon his return, they settled in Royal Oak. Their first child, Peggy was born in 1949, followed by Bob in 1951. Mary was a proud Michigander who loved taking walks, enjoyed the country, and fresh air. She was fond of saying that she was “from Royal Oak, not Detroit.”

In 2017, Mary moved to Colorado to be near her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She developed many new friendships and several hobbies at her new home, Someren Glen. She loved to paint and was proud, but very modest about her artwork. She loved being around family, enjoyed outings to Panera and The Original Pancake House, along with weekly brunch visits with her great-grandsons.

Mary died peacefully on Thursday, September 5th, 2019 at the Suites at Someren Glen.

A memorial service will be held in her honor for her friends and family in Colorado at Someren Glen on Monday, September 23, 2019 at 10 o’clock in the morning. Mary will be brought home to Michigan to rest in October; a Mass will be held on Monday, October 7, 2019 at 10 o’clock in the morning at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica in Royal Oak, with burial at White Chapel Cemetery to follow.
