Mary E. Innes, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on January 14, 2025, at the age of 93.
She was born Mary Elizabeth Zingaro on December 30, 1931, in New York City to Mary (Thibodeau) and Dr. Angelo Zingaro. Together with her parents, brother Arthur, sister Lois, aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins, she grew up in a large family full of love in New York City and Newtown, Connecticut.
Mary went on to study English at Marymount College in New York, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts and graduated Cum Laude.
She met Robert (Bob) Innes while working at Kenyon & Eckhardt advertising firm, and on November 2, 1956, they married at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. Together they raised their family in Scarsdale, New York, before relocating to Denver in 1975, when Bob took a position as General Manager of KWGN television station.
After raising her children, Mary returned to school and earned a second degree, a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Metropolitan State College of Denver. She ran her own successful bookkeeping and tax services business for over 30 years.
Mary was a loving mother to, and is survived by her children, Robert Innes, Marianne Gutstein (Michael Gutstein, deceased), Angela Innes (Rick Polito), David Innes (Kari Innes), and Steven Innes, as well as her grandchildren, Sam Gutstein, Alex Gutstein (Hannah Gutsein), Leah Gutstein, Amanda Innes, and Joe Innes, and her sister, Lois Zingaro.
Mary will be remembered for her warmth, wit, creativity, and deep love for her family.
A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends to honor Mary’s life on January 31, 2025. Burial services will be private for immediate family.
