Mary Jo Sundstrom Johnson, age 87, entered into eternal life with her Savior on Friday, October 30, 2015. She died peacefully in Aurora, Colorado, after a precipitous decline in health. Mary Jo was born to Walter Scott and Florence Joan Shroll on February 2, 1928 in Tucson, Arizona. She attended college at Northern Arizona University, majoring in Home Economics and Teacher Education. At NAU Mary Jo met Frederick J. Sundstrom, Jr. whom she married in 1951. They had three children together: Frederick J. (""Chip"") Sundstrom (Lynne), Margaret J. (""Peggy"") Sundstrom (Mikk Anderson) and Robert J. Sundstrom. The couple made their home in Pasadena, California, enjoying outdoor activities including camping, backpacking, gardening and golf. Mary Jo was a substitute teacher and a homemaker until her children were in middle and high school, at which time she obtained a Master's Degree in Special Education. She then worked as a teacher for individuals with visual disabilities until her retirement in 1989. A devout Roman Catholic, Mary Jo was an active volunteer with her church, Saint Luke's in Temple City, California. Fred died in 1983, after which Mary Jo met and married Dr. Robert E. (""Bob"") Johnson in 1986, becoming stepmother to Gregory M. Johnson (Nancy). Mary Jo and Bob were members of Glendora Country Club and traveled extensively, enjoying golf and bridge together. Bob died in 2011. Mary Jo is survived by her three children and stepson, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, November 20, at 10:30 am, at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Aurora, Colorado. Family and friends are welcome to participate in a celebration of Mary Jo's life following the funeral Mass at the home of Mikk Anderson and Peggy Sundstrom in Aurora, Colorado.
