Mary Dorothea Leonard

Ms. Mary Dorothea Leonard 18 September 1951 – 9 October 2012 Mary Dorothea (""Dorth"") was born in Denver, Colorado. She attended Blessed Sacrament grade school and Marycrest high School. She received her Bachelors Degree from Catholic University (Washington, DC) in 197---. She received a Master's Degree in Franciscan Studies from St. Bonaventure in Western New York in 198--. Dorth worked worked as a travel agent for a while, and then at the Samaritan House homeless shelter from 1985 – 19--. From there, she became a teacher at Annunciation grade school, where she taught first and second grade from 199—to 1999. In 1999, Dorth resigned her job to care for her mother, Mary Ann (Walsh) Leonard after a massive stroke debilitated her. For the next three years, Dorth provided 24/7 intensive home care until Mary Ann passed away on January 2, 2003. Then Dorth returned to teaching at Annuciation grade school. Dorth transferred from Annunciation to St. Bernadette's grade school in 2009. There, she taught first and second grade until June, 2012. Dorthy suffered from ovarian cancer. After numerous chemotherapy regimens, she entered hospice care in July 2012. Through all of the pain of the disease, the extreme discomfort and side effects of chemotherapy treatments, and finally during hospice care, Dorth maintained a fervent belief in God, and her spirits were always upbeat and accepting of her lot that was bolstered by her unshakable belief in Jesus Christ and life everlasting. Her faith, courage, grace and wry sense of humor were an inspiration to all of her extended family, many of whom shared her final hours on earth at her bedside. The Leonard family wishes to thank all of you for your prayers and support, and for your love of our dearly beloved sister Dorth. Visitation will be held 1:00PM-5:00PM on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Boulevard, Denver. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00PM on Monday, October 15, 2012 and Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00AM on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 allwill be held at St. Louis Catholic Church, 3310 South Sherman Street, Englewood, CO.
