Mary Allene Loffreda

March 20, 1920 — March 23, 2015

Mary Allene Loffreda, lifelong Denverite, died early Sunday at a hospice. She had her 95th birthday on March 20. The rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Horan McConaty Mortuary, 1091 S.Colorado Blvd. The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Risen Christ Catholic Church, 3060 S. Monaco Blvd. The epitome of ""mom,"" Mary was perceptive, gracious, intuitive, loving, witty, spiritual, caring, sensitive, savvy, understanding and supportive. She was always upbeat about anything her kids or grandkids were doing, but also always with the cautious suggestion to ""be careful"". She took the time to have a one-on-one relationship with each her grandkids. They all respected her wisdom and sincerity. Her concern for others and compassion was evident with her volunteer job for more than 15 years at St. John's Hospice in Lakewood and several years as a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver. We'll all miss her radiant smile, welcoming attitude, always looking proper and attractive with hair newly coiffed and a sense of humor. Few people will have more of an impact on so many others more than ""mom"". Mary loved her family, loved people, loved to garden, cook, bowl, bicycle, dance and entertain, sometimes with a ""cast of thousands"" at holiday events. Mary Murray was born March 20, 1920, in Denver to Robert M. and Jacqulyn Murray and graduated from Cathedral High school. She attended what was then Loretto Heights College in Denver for two years. She married Eugene J. Schierburg on May 19, 1943. They had five children. He died in 1973 and she married Phillip Loffreda. He died in 1980. She is survived by two sons: Richard Schierburg of Greenwood Village and Scott Schierburg of Denver; two daughters: Cindy Krieger of Golden and Cathy Williams of Aurora; by 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jeanne Moriarity, her parents, her sister, Jacqueline Bullard and her brother, Robert J. Murray, Jr. Please share your memories of Mary and your condolence messages with the family below.
