Mary Ann Lopez

Mary Ann "Honey" Lopez (Villalva) passed away peacefully in her home on December 24th, 2024. She was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome in 2023 and was able to maintain her active lifestyle for nearly two years, until her disease turned into an aggressive form of leukemia just 6 weeks before her death.

Mary Ann was born in Bristol, CO, the second youngest of seven children. In her late teens, she met the love of her life, John Lopez, when they both happened to visit a mutual friend in the hospital. Though she was interested, she declined his offer for a ride home. As she walked away, he drove up beside her, took a chance to ask again, piquing her interest, so she accepted his invitation and launched the beginning of a new journey.

John and Mary Ann were married October 22, 1960. They moved into a home in Green Mountain and were blessed with three children. While maintaining a household and raising a family, Mary Ann worked in many different capacities. The most notable pieces of her working life were her time as a dedicated dental technician, and her many years in the deli at King Soopers, from where, she ultimately retired.

She and John boasted many adventures and travels during their 64 year marriage. Their international treks took her to Africa, Australia, and her favorite, Italy. She was always up for a healthy dose of adrenaline and obtained this by riding motorcycles, scuba diving, and even sky diving!

Mary Ann had friends in every circle of her social life, from the gym, to her motorcycle club, the church, and a movie group. She made fast friends with the infusion nurses during treatment and entertained them with her many stories of her amazing life. Her energy was contagious and inviting, and she was loved by all who knew her.

Beyond her audacious lifestyle, her greatest delight was her family. She was known as "Honey" by her children and grandchildren and she had an abundant presence in their lives. She could always be found in the cheering section of every sporting event, music performance, world record attempt, and academic achievement. The sidelines won't be the same without her big umbrella, joyful applause, and infectious laugh.

She spent her final days in her home, choosing to surround herself with family, good memories and a wealth of love.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband John Lopez, her children, Lori Bohn, John Lopez, and Joseph Lopez. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Michael Bohn (Kiley), Nicole Martinez (Miguel), Justin Bohn (Ashley), and Zachary Bohn (Danielle), and 8 great-grandchildren: Jackson, Colby, and Benjamin Martinez; Samantha, Michael "Bodhi" Bohn (with former partner Alyssa Manny) and Tatum Bohn; Adeline and Hudson Bohn.
