Mary K. Lowe of Aurora, Colorado passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024. Born March 25, 1946, in Ogden, Utah, she was the daughter of Pat and June Owens. The family subsequently moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where Mary K lived for seventeen years, graduating from Paschal High School before leaving for Omaha, Nebraska, where she attended The College of St. Mary. She went on to live in the Boston area for a number of years as well at Bermuda Run, North Carolina, and Dallas, Texas, before moving to Colorado in 1999. In her younger years, Mary K. and her family made many trips to Minnesota, where she formed close links with her many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
An avid animal lover, Mary K. was an accomplished horse woman, and in Fort Worth competed in numerous equestrian events, riding her quarter horse, Bob, with whom she won several barrel racing contests. Throughout her life, she treasured her dogs, whom she lovingly worked with to win numerous obedience awards. Reading was another of her many interests, and a recent, historical novel was invariably at her bedside. An accomplished hostess, her home was a favorite gathering spot for family and her numerous friends, often for games of bridge. She worked many years as a recruiter in the intellectual technology field. Politics and social issues were another keen area of interest, and she was active in several Colorado and national campaigns, both for her brother and other candidates.
A loving mother, Mary K. is survived by her sons, Brad (Pam Fleming) of Northbridge, MA and Matt Leatherbee of Danielson, CT; her sisters, Betsy Anastasia (Charlie) and Kelly Owens (Terrance Tschatschula ); and by her brothers, Mike (Jane) and Bill Owens. She will also be greatly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews, by whom she was greatly loved.
