Mary Elizabeth Mulqueen 1930 - 2024
Our mother Mary Mulqueen, passed away early in the morning on February 29th. Born Mary Elizabeth Mansfield to Helen Irene (McCarrick) Mansfield and Arthur Thomas Mansfield, Mom was a lifelong Denver resident. She grew up near Observatory Park with her siblings Pat and Tom, attended elementary school at St. Vincent de Paul, and graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School.
In 1951 she married George C. Mulqueen Jr., and together they raised their children, Janet (Michael) White, son Brian White, Sally Mulqueen, Diana Barry, daughter Katie (Mike) Gedelman, and son Mike (Staley) Barry and their daughter Collins, Mark (Beth Duquette) Mulqueen and their sons Ike (Claire Diamond) and Liam (Basak Simal), and Joan Mulqueen.
In 1960, they moved into the home she lived in and loved for the rest of her life. After our father’s death in 1982, Mom, having not worked outside the home for 30 years, bravely took the helm of our father’s company, Mountain States Wholesale, and with the help of our father’s family and loyal employees, ran it successfully until her retirement in 1997.
Throughout it all, mom took loving care of our sister Joan, and the two lived together until Joan’s passing last April.
Mom loved her faith, family, friends, the mountains, blue sky, roses and babies. She laughed easily, often at herself, and was a naturally kind person. It’s a testament to Mom’s kindness that she remained close with many of our extended family throughout her life. She also had a group of friends whose close company she enjoyed for many decades. Open minded and fair, mom gave us a wonderful example of how to go forward gracefully in life.
Besides her parents, husband George, and daughter Joan, Mom was predeceased by her siblings, Arthur Thomas Mansfield Jr. and Patricia Ann Sailor.
