Mary Ann Nowell

August 10, 1927 — November 3, 2010

Mary Ann Hammond Nowell, age 83, was born August 10, 1927, in Randolph, Nebraska. She grew up in Denver, and graduated from South High School and the University of Colorado where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Her parents were Lynn and Julia Hammond of Cherry Hills. Mary passed away November 3, 2010, in Denver, CO after a lengthy illness. She survived her husband of sixty years, Bruce A. Nowell, Jr. by twelve days. They made their home in Cherry Hills Village and were the parents of two children, Amy Nowell (deceased) and Bruce Nowell III (Bud). In addition to Bud, Mary and Bruce are survived by grandchildren Nicholas (Stephanie) Clayton, their children, Elise, Miaya and Gabriel; Jeremy (Stacey) Clayton, their children, Toby and Ryan; and Zack (Cassie) Clayton. Also surviving are her sister Zeta (Don) McMichael of Denver, brother, Lynn (Norma) Hammond of Loveland, sister Julie Blackmun of Colorado Springs, and sister Jill (Jim) Brown of LaJolla, CA as well as cousins Jim Hammond of Denver and Helen Baab of Overland Park, KS. Mary had a keen sense of humor and razor sharp memory. She loved family gatherings and the opportunity to recall and relate family stories from the past. She was passionate about her children, politics, football and places like Cripple Creek and Blackhawk. A Celebration of Life for Mary and Bruce will be held at 1:30pm on Sunday, November 14, at Pinehurst Country Club, 6255 West Quincy Avenue, Denver. Private burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
