Mary Mable Paper

September 22, 1921 — October 7, 2011

Mary Mable Wolff Paper was born September 22, 1921 in Buffalo, Minnesota. Her parents were Henry and Mabel Wolff, who preceded her in death. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in Speech Education. She also attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and the University of Denver. She was married to Frederick P. Paper on December 22, 1950 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Denver. Fred died in January 1971. Her children, Fritz and Ruth, were 17 and 13 when Fred died. Mary was always proud of her children. Both graduated from college and held professional jobs, Fritz working for the University of Michigan and Ruth teaching science in Thornton. Mary was very distressed when Ruth died of cancer in 2008. Besides being survived by Fritz, Mary is survived by her son-in-law Terrance Cruz, her granddaughter Valerie Cruz and her sister Ruth Tufigno. Mary held various leadership roles in church groups including Dorcas Circle and Women of the E.L.C.A. She was the Communion Registrar for eight years and she has been a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church since 1957. She was also active in her sorority, Delta Zeta, and L.W.V.'s. She enjoyed the ""Widows and Widowers"" activities, especially the Duplicate Bridge group; and she loved travelling and showing slide presentations for friends and organizations. Scandinavia and Mississippi River Cruises were the most fun. Mary was a teacher in the Denver Public Schools, both as a tenured teacher and as a substitute for about 28 years. Mary passed on October 7 after an extended illness. Mary's memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on Wednesday, October 12, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 2300 South Patton Court, Denver.
