Mary Stenby

Mary E. Stenby died on October 4, 2021 at home, surrounded by family. Extended family and friends are saddened to lose such a wonderful and warm woman. Mary was an amazing person who shared her energy, kindness, love and caring for the many people that were a part of her life.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York to the Quinn family. She grew up in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn and graduated from high school. Mary was one of 10 children and she developed a strong personality in having to survive growing up with 10 siblings. In her adult years she lived in Brooklyn, Queens and Hicksville, New York. In 1972, she moved to Denver, Colorado.

She married Edward Stenby in 1959 in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brooklyn, NY. They were together for 62 years and had four wonderful children.

Mary had a varied career first as an executive secretary at Pfizer headquarters in New York City and then as a secretary for the Fish and Wildlife Service in Lakewood, Colorado. She also held various part-time jobs while also being a full-time mother. Her most cherished position was as a teacher’s aide in the Jefferson County schools working with special needs children.

Mary’s favorite activity was spending time and being there for her four children, thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She and husband Ed hosted numerous family events for the holidays, where all family members would gather to celebrate the occasion.

Mary was a great wife and mother. Her husband and children will miss her greatly. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tell Irish jokes. She will be remembered for her generosity, her unfailing readiness to help others (especially little children), and her positive outlook on life.

A memorial service will be held at the Horan & McConaty Funeral Home at 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd in Lakewood on November 6, 2021 at 11:00 am, with reception after.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mary's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
