Mary Tuck

February 25, 1926 — September 21, 2013

Mary Tuck: Born Mary Patricia Key on February 25th, 1926 in Denver, CO. Mary had a difficult childhood which included the death of her mother when she was 4 yrs old. Many other family members died during her younger years. She was the oldest of 4 sisters (Virginia, Pat, and Betty). Mary graduated in 1943 from Holy Family High School. As WWII raged, Mary enrolled in the highly regimented Cadet Nurse Corps at St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing. While in nurse's training, a friend persuaded her to go on a blind date at the USO dance, where she met a young GI named S/Sgt. Walter J. Tuck. He was a handsome Jersey boy who drove an old '32 Packard convertible. He had just returned from flying 50 missions over Europe. She wrote ""The minute I saw him, I knew he would be my husband..."" She was right. In March 1945 she married Walter at St. Antoninus Catholic Church in Newark, New Jersey. Shortly thereafter the new couple moved back to Denver. Walt started working a trade as an apprentice union plumber, while Mary looked after their newborn son Tom. Together they endured and overcame many difficult circumstances. It was a humble, yet happy life. Mary worked part-time nursing and dental office jobs, while Walt became a Master Plumber. In 1962 Mary gave birth to another son, Matthew. There were complications during his birth and both Mary and Matthew almost died. It was a close call, but everything turned out OK. In 1964 Walt and Mary were able to buy their first house on Polaris Place in Thornton, CO. It was a beautiful new house that Walt himself helped to build! Many happy memories were realized there. Mary was an expert seamstress, and could create anything with her sewing machine. Those who knew her were always amazed by her work. Mary was a kind, compassionate person, and would often bring gifts and supplies to those in need. She was a living example of love to those who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband Walt, sister Virginia, sons Tom and Matt, grandchildren Stephanie, Chris, Nate, Adriana, Jim, Paul, and Jacob. Mary also has 6 great-grandchildren. She will be missed! A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 2190 South Sheridan Boulevard in Denver. Followed by a Committal at 12:30 pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard in Denver. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made in Mary's memory to Holy Cross Catholic Church 9371 Wigham Street in Thornton.
