Mary “Joan” Severino, age 86 passed away September 9th, 2020. Born to Alfred and Amelia Laite on September 5th, 1934 in St John’s Newfoundland, Canada. Joan grew up in Newfoundland with her 6 siblings.
Joan married Tom in November of 1955. This November they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Together they had 4 children, spouses listed in parenthesis: Dawn (Glenn), Toni (Bob), Tommy (Angie), and Traci. They also have 7 grandchildren: Jennifer, Stephane, Aaron, Erica, Ashley, Sofia and Nicholas as well as 6 great grandchildren: Kyla, Jayden, Jace, Peyton, Pierson and Nolan
Joan worked for many years as a secretary at Mrachek Middle School where her gift to connect with kids was apparent as she could relate to them with not only her very witty sense of humor but also her wisdom and kindness. She was loved by the students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
Joan’s passion for music was an important part of her life as it would not be uncommon to find her singing or dancing. Music was a common bond that she shared with her husband Tom as it was music that brought them together on the night they met. Joan was dancing as Tom was playing in the Air Force Band while stationed in Newfoundland. Anyone that knows Joan, knows that she loved to dance. Even her 5-year-old great granddaughter Peyton said, “I hope Nanny remembers to bring her dancing shoes to heaven.”
If someone were asked to describe Joan in a few words, common adjectives would be: kind, generous, funny, and sassy. Joan will leave behind a legacy of the importance of family and love. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association: https://www.alz.org/co
The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers at Peakview Memory Care as they loved her like one of their own.
