Marylyn Becker Baker

February 22, 1930 — February 21, 2018

Marylyn Baker passed away on February 21st just one day shy of her 88th birthday. She was born in Denver on February 22, 1930 just 22 minutes after her twin sister Carylyn. Her parents were Charles and Winifred Becker. She is survived by her four children Jeff Baker, Wendy Baker, Karen Dolan and Shelley Watson; her daughter-in-law Kim Baker; her five grandchildren Lauren Goss, Kelly Hall, Patrick Dolan, Catherine Dolan and Nicholas Dolan and her four great-grandchildren Baker Goss, Taylor Goss, Hannah Hall and Andrew Hall. She also is survived by her twin sister Carylyn Lewis, her brother-in-law Bob Lewis and 8 nieces and nephews. Marylyn attended The Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas and Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. She resided in Texas, Illinois and California before returning to Denver in 1961. Marylyn was married to Charles R. Baker in 1949. The marriage ended in divorce in 1962. She raised 4 children on her own at a time when few women even had their own checking accounts. She ensured that her children were well educated and involved in sports, outdoor activities and volunteerism. Marylyn was a mother, a homemaker and a volunteer at Children’s Hospital and the Denver Zoo. She was a member of Cherry Hills Country Club and the Junior League. A native of Colorado Marylyn enjoyed the outdoors - skiing, fishing and hiking. Later in life she became a very talented painter using oils and watercolors. A Celebration of Marylyn’s Life will be held at Cherry Hills Country Club, 4125 S. University Boulevard, Cherry Hills Village on March 1, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00. Burial will be private in Springfield, Illinois. In lieu of flowers donations should be made to Children’s Hospital Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, 13123 E. 16th Avenue, Aurora 80045 or the Denver Zoo, 2300 Steele Street, Denver 80205.
