Mary Margaret (Hanley) Hayes, 93, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother & sister passed peacefully into the Lords loving arms on March 11, 2021. Born on June 12th 1927 in Adair, IA Mary Margaret had a blessed life. She grew up on a farm outside of Adair attending a one room schoolhouse before moving to Des Moines in 1940 to attend St Joseph’s Academy, where she graduated in 1944. Mary Margaret earned a Nursing diploma from Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA and became a Registered nurse in 1950. Soon after, she met Eugene “Bud” Hayes, the love of her life. The couple were married in September 1953 and spent 59 wonderful years together. In addition to her achievements in nursing, she was also a skilled homemaker and devoted mother to 4 loving children.
Mary Margaret & Bud moved several times over their long marriage and made beautiful homes starting outside Spokane, WA where Bud was stationed in the Air Force. They then returned to their native Omaha, NE where they lived before moving West Des Moines, IA in 1968. The late 70’s had them moving to Davenport, IA; Phoenix, AZ and finally Littleton, CO in 1982.
Mary Margaret was very active with the children’s schools, church and other extra-curricular activities. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling and loved getting together socially with her family and friends!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Mary “Mamie” Marcella Hanley, her beloved husband Eugene “Bud” Hayes, and sister Eleanor Drozda.
She is survived by her children, Jeaninne Hayes Wolf, Daniel “Dan” Hayes, Elizabeth “Betsy” Hayes and Kathy (John) Holum; grandchildren, Katie (Tyler) Wolf Perkins, Ryan (Sara) Wolf, Kelli (Caleb) Holum Moore and Clint Holum; great grandchild Rhys Perkins and sister Lucille (Rollie) Reznicek, along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass, for family, will be held at Horan & McConaty at 5303 E County Line Road, Centennial, CO on March 22, 2021 at 11:00 am, the Mass will be live streamed by Horan; followed by interment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at 1:30pm. We welcome everyone to attend a celebration of life reception in August or September of 2021; details forthcoming.
