Mathew Peter Gere

Mathew Peter Gere passed away on March 5, 2025 at the age of 48 surrounded by friends and family. Mathew was born on August 4, 1976 in Colorado and was a longtime resident of Lakewood. Most of his career was centered around cars and the parts to make them run. He loved his dad’s street rods especially the rod runs and car shows, summers on his grandparent’s Nebraska ranch, visiting his mom and step-father in southwestern Colorado and… his sports. He was a huge sports fan with his first loves being his Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Nuggets.

Mat is survived by niece Sage Valentine, step-father Blaine Burt, step-sisters Tamara (John) Cryer and Jennifer Mettler, girlfriend Rebecca Manning, friend and his “other brother” Steve Verdos, numerous cousins and a wide circle of amazing friends. He is preceded in death by his father Donald Dean Gere, his mother Karen Rose (Hinton) Gere, his brother Scott Joseph Gere, infant brother Kenneth John Gere, grandparents Homer & Arvelyn Hinton, Arley & Arlene Engelsgaard, Ned Gere, and Roy & Margaret Houser, as well as several aunts & uncles, cousins and friends.

Please join the family at a casual reception to celebrate Mat’s life on Saturday April 5, 2024 from 3P – 5P at 3275 S Ammons Street in Lakewood, Colorado. Mat will join other members of his family and be laid to rest at a graveside service in Cody, Nebraska at a later date. In lieu of flowers and cards please consider a donation to Collier Hospice Center – part of the Lutheran Medical Center Foundation and Intermountain Health.

Mat, you left us way too soon. We will miss your crazy sense of humor and how you kept us all laughing whenever we were together. Rest in peace.
