Matthew Winsor Shankle

Matthew Winsor Shankle, 51, of Greenwood Village CO passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2011 with his family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife Carla Gene (Schneider), beloved children: Alexandra, Geno, Holly, and Kelsey as well as brothers: Steven, Joe, and Zach, sisters: Kathy, Missy, and Lisa, brother-in-law Mark (Candice), sister-in-law Tina (Jay), 6 nieces and 7 nephews, and many good friends. He was the fourth of eight children and was preceded in death by his parents Donald Winsor and Mary Patricia, and his brother, Jeff. Matt was a graduate of Oceanside (CA) High School where he was a standout member of the football team. He was a life-long certified diver and a passionate sailor. He was an advisory board member for the Special Service Advisory Committee as well as Chair of Educational Technology Advisory Committee for Littleton Public School District. SEA FEVER I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by; And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking, And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a gray dawn breaking. I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied; And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying, And the flung spray and the blown spume and the seagull's crying. I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life, To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife; And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover, And a quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.
