Maurice Lee Woodhull Jr. (Lee) was born in Port Chester, NY and passed away on Dec. 21, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 54.5 years, his two children, their spouses and four grandchildren, in-laws Anita Lindfield & David & Mary Hendricks, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Maurice Lee & Lois Woodhull, as well as two siblings, Maurine Woodhull Malovany and infant Richard Woodhull.
Lee grew up in Scarsdale, NY graduating from Scarsdale High School, but not before earning his Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America.
He graduated from The College of Emporia in Emporia, KS where he met the love of his life, Janet Hendricks whom he wed on June 27, 1965. Shortly thereafter he began his career in rubber chemistry at Goodyear Tire in Topeka, KS before receiving a personal invitation from Uncle Sam to join the military. He served in the United States Army from 1968-1971 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Fort Sill, OK where he was an artillery instructor and then finally at Fort Dix, NJ. He left the Army as a First Lieutenant.
His rubber chemistry career then took them back to Topeka, KS and then on to Batesville, AR. After the second grade teacher brought them in for a conference regarding their daughter's speech impediment...aka... no southern drawl... they decided it was high time to move from Arkansas!
The next job location was slated to be Wabash, Indiana where they found a new house but forgot to put down any earnest money. So when a last minute job offer in Colorado came, they jumped on it, ditched Indiana and called the movers to change the delivery location! Woohoo â Welcome to Home Sweet Home - Littleton, CO.
Along the way came their two fantastic kids (who may, in fact, be assisting in the writing of this). Their daughter, Heather graduated from Colorado State University and then moved to Northern California where she bought Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Club in Sunnyvale (YAY - Lee LOVED comedy!) and then married Chad Barbieri. They then had Lee and Janet's first two grandchildren thus promoting them to ""Mimi and Grandpa"" status! Heather and Chad have Riley (11yr) and Marco (9yr). Their son, Chris lived in Fort Collins, CO after also graduating college from CSU where he met his wife, Kelly Vogler. Not to be out done, Chris and Kelly also have two adorable kids, Maggie (5yr - on 1/4/20!!! HBD Girl!) and Max (3yr) making the score an even 2 boys and 2 girls - all adorable and magnificent! Whew!
Lee loved his family and the large number of friendships he gained with his community involvement over the entire span of his life. Including Girl Scout Troop camping, and even Girl Scout Cookie Neighborhood chairman (all those boxes of cookies in the garage - Go Dad Go!) Boy Scouts (including Boundary Waters with Chris) to swim meet judging and band boosters.
Lee & Janet were members at Columbine United Church for years where he was even the Director of Buildings & Grounds for 10 years - handling so many big & little things that needed to be done - while also never letting the vacuuming slip - but maybe not known to most - treasured the preschool there and loved his office being so close to the kiddos. His mission trips through the church included a Habitat Build in Hungary, work with a church in Honduras and working for El Porvenir in Nicaragua. He also sang as a member of the church choir which led to years with the Celebration Singers under the direction of Karl & Edith Abbott which was a major highlight! He was still involved with the CUC Chronologically Gifted Lunch Group.
Since transferring their membership to Littleton United Methodist Church he has loved singing in the choir under the direction of David Kates and neighbor, Kathy Forsberg.
The Columbine Kiwanis Club has been a large part of his public service as well as social life. He served in various capacities including president, drove the Jungle Mobile, delivered Meals on Wheels as well as rang the bell and collected the donations to take to the Salvation Army each year before Christmas.
Lee loved fishing as well as talking about fishing, making blueberry pancakes and baking chocolate chip cookies - most notably winning Janet the award for ""Best Cookie Baker"" at Merrill Lynch one year! He loved visiting his grandchildren as well as cruising all over the globe! In his free time you could find him with a Sudoku book or researching ""the next big cruise."" He was a husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, a leader, a volunteer and a friend. He was loved and he will be missed.
""He liked to like people, therefore people liked him."" (Mark Twain).
