Maxine Kerr Lewis

June 23, 1922 — September 16, 2008

Matriarch of the Kerr Clan, all 178! Maxine was born Hilda Maxine Kerr in Superior, Colorado, June 23, 1922 to Hilda Patricia and James Joseph Kerr. She was raised in Denver, graduated in 1939 from Cathedral High School and attended the University of Denver. Maxine danced for the Denver Grand Opera Company under the direction of Monsignor Joseph Bosetti, and danced summer stock at Elitch's Theatre Garden sponsored by the Denver Post and the O'Neil's Dance Studio. Maxine managed the Rialto Theatre in downtown Denver during WWII. She married Capt. Kenneth K. Lewis, Jr. of Denver in 1945 and traveled all over the U.S. making many long lasting friendships with Air Force families. Maxine will be long remembered for her generous smile, laughter, love and devotion for her family and friends. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Patricia Mack; brothers and their wives, James A. & Elizabeth Kerr, Frank Kerr, Robert Kerr, Ramon & Sally Kerr, John Kerr, William & Hannah (Aunt Duke) Kerr, and her grandson Kerry Rogers Orr. Also preceded in death by her nephews & nieces, Joe Barney Kerr, Kathleen Edwards, John ""Jack"" Kerr, Patricia Scott, her sisters-in-law Mary Kerr, Charlotte & Richard Elkins, and retired Colonel Kenneth K. Lewis, Jr. She is survived by her daughters; Patricia (David) Spurgin of Plano, TX, Pamala (Cliff) Orr of Castle Rock, CO, Penelope (Chris) Shields of Vallejo, CA, Paulette (Kevin) Simas of Penn Valley, CA, Paige (Blue) Patterson of Aurora, CO, and her son Kevin (Kirsten) Lewis of Kirkland, WA; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in- law Viola Kerr, Sister Mary Kenneth Lewis, Mary Ellen Lewis, and many nieces & nephews. In celebration of Maxine's life, a Rosary will be said at 6:00 PM Thursday, with a vistation from 3:00 to 6:00, Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd; Mass of the Christian Burial at 3:00 PM Friday, Church of the Risen Christ, 3060 S. Monaco Pkwy.; Interment at 11:00 AM Saturday, Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local chapter for SIDS, Craig Rehabilitation Hospital in Englewood, CO, or your local chapter for Multiple Sclerosis.
