Maxine (Penzell - Solat) Nelson, 87, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022. Maxine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and hosted wonderful holiday meals and parties. Her love of art, antiques, and entertainment continued when she retired and moved to Heritage Eagle Bend in Aurora, Colorado. She had a wonderful sense of humor, fashion, and true kindness about her. Although she suffered from dementia for many years before her death, she never lost her sense of humor and concern for her loved ones.
Maxine was born on June 19, 1935, in the Bronx, New York, and lived in Brooklyn until marrying her first husband and moving to Los Angeles in 1958. She graduated from New York University with a degree in Fashion Merchandising, worked as a buyer in New York, and eventually taught at the Fashion Merchandising Institute in Los Angeles.
Maxine married her second husband, Seymour Nelson, in 1976 and moved to Philadelphia in 1978. They began working together as antique dealers, traveling up and down the east coast doing shows until they opened their first store, Maxine Nelson Jewelers, in North Wales, PA in the late eighties. After retiring, they moved to Aurora, Colorado to be close to their children.
Maxine is survived by her three children and their spouses: Andrea (Solat) Amonick and Howard Amonick, Karen (Solat) Jabo and Kevin Kerr, and Larry Solat and Mandi (Greene) Solat. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren: Jacqueline Solat, Jeremy Solat, Ethan Solat, Amelia Amonick, and Madeline Amonick. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years in 2018. She will be dearly missed by all.
