Signe Stortz of Denver passed away December 11, 2005 at Porter Hospice following a stroke. Signe was born in Chicago November 16, 1925. She grew up on a farm near Axtell, Nebraska. She came to Denver at age 17 to attend business college. After graduation she worked at Olin Flour Mills and later at the Air Force Finance Center. She married Stan Stortz in 1945 who later joined the Denver Police Department. Signe retired from Denver Health after more than 20 years of service. She was involved with Denver Jazz Club, Boulder Friends of Jazz, Swedish Club of Denver, Sons of Norway, Organ Society, Ragtime Piano Society, 2 China Painting clubs, Retired Police, Retired Denver Health, Porter Hospital Volunteers. She was preceded in death by husband Stan, son Christian, brother Karl and sister June. She is survived by children Michael Stortz (Janeen) and Sandra Stortz, sweetheart Walt Hewitt of Denver, 2 grandchildren Margaret Stortz (Denver), Katy (Stortz) Erwin (Amsterdam, NL) and 1 great grandchild Anika Erwin. Signe is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
