Melanie, 49, originally of Denver, Colorado, passed into eternal life on October 16, 2015. Melanie was loved by her husband, Dave Glenn; children, Cassie and Dylan; parents, Martha and Sigi; siblings, Sigi (Amy) and Katherine Klein. ""Auntie Mel"" was also beloved by her nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Melanie grew up in Denver and attended Smoky Hill High School, then Colorado State and Metro State Universities. She decided to leave school, and instead follow her dream of flying and became a flight attendant for Continental Airlines. She cherished that job and it is where she developed her love of travel, and her passion for serving others that would last her lifetime. While still a flight attendant, she met her husband Dave while he was a cadet at the Air Force Academy--and a love affair was born. Dave often tells folks that he remembers when she came to the door for their first date, he was smitten and told himself that ""she is way too pretty for you."" And he loved to hear her tell the story that on that same date as she stood on the other side of the doorway, she told herself that ""this is the man I am supposed to marry."" Soon after marrying they started their family, and Melanie's true purpose on this earth was realized--that of raising her kids. With focus and effort unmatched by most, she has spent the last 26 years of her life raising two confident, sure, and loved children. She knew every school, every teacher, every coach, every class, every friend--literally everything that was necessary to ensure her children had every opportunity they needed to succeed in life. And if you've met our Cassie and Dylan, you know that she succeeded! With a smile and style that lit up every room she entered, her passion for life and live for today attitude drew others to her and she fed on their love and energy. She lived for her family and friends, and literally could not have been more selfless in her actions. She gave till it hurt and then gave some more. She could be counted on to attend every event on the calendar, be it a school function for a niece or nephew, a friends birthday, wedding, illness, you name it, she was there--and she was bringing food! One of her nieces used to say that she was surprised that Dave and the kids didn't weigh over 400 pounds each because they did not ever leave the house without food or drink. As empty nesters, Dave and Melanie lived their last few years together to the fullest. Riding their tandem bike throughout the city and mountains; attending concerts and outdoor events; if there was a new restaurant in town, she knew about it, and her almost daily trips to Goodwill to feed her passion for collecting retro furniture and knicknacks is the stuff of legend. Their annual trips to Mexico included plans to buy a place there, ""with her people"" she would say, and spend more of their life together on the beach where she didn't have a care in the world. Melanie courageously and consistently fought a battle with a mental disease that progressed over the last few years of her life. She only allowed immediate family members to know and fed off the love and support that they provided her. She knew how lucky she was to have the support of her Parents, her Husband and her Children. However, at the end, the almost daily pain and suffering and was too much too bear and the disease took her life. We miss her dearly, but as we grieve and hurt, Melanie no longer does--and we ask that you remember the smile, the energy, and the intense love that she so selflessly gave during the days, and the years, that we were blessed to have had her in our lives. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 12-3 PM, with Sharing of Memories beginning at 1 PM, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 South Colorado Boulevard, in Denver, Colorado 80246.
